CALL TO ORDER

Chairman Hay called the m= eeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the Selectmen’s Office at Town Hall.

7:01 p.m. EXECUTIVE SESSI= ON

Mr. O’Toole moved t= hat the Board enter into executive session for the purpose of contract negotiations, and that the Board reconvene in open session following negotiations. Mr. Fairbanks seconded the motion.= The motion passed unanimously.

7:49 p.m. - RECONVENED

APPROVAL OF MINUTES/WARRA= NTS

Mr. O’Toole moved t= hat the Board approve the regular session minutes of May 26, and executive session minutes of May 26, and June 1, 2009, as printed. Mr. Hay seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Board members reviewed and approved the following warrants:

June 2, 2009 &= nbsp; Accounts Payable Ice Storm #69S &nb= sp; = $ 16,869.65

June 8, 2009 &= nbsp; Accounts Payable Warrant #70 = &nb= sp; $ 39,489.24

&n= bsp; = ; = Payroll Warrant #71 &n= bsp; = ; &n= bsp; $ 296,189.02

DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION <= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'> CONTRACTING CERTIFICATION

Mr. Hay congratulated Tow= n Coordinator Karen Murphy for successfully completing the Design and Construction Contracting certification seminar wi= th a 100% score offered by the Office of the Inspector General.

GERRY GRANITE WORKS ̵= 1; ACADEMY HILL BENCHES

Mrs. Elaine Jones, Michae= l Gerry of Gerry Granite Works was on hand to discuss with Selectmen the status of = the granite benches. Mrs. Jones s= tated at present the ten benches are at Gerry Granite Works in Gardner and have not been inscripted.

Historical Commissioner <= st1:PersonName w:st=3D"on">Betsy Hannula asked the status of the Memorial Committee which had been discussed over a year and one half ago. Mrs. Murphy responded that there w= as advertising to recruit members of the memorial committee a year and a half = ago but only two individuals who have submitted letters of interest.

The Selectmen agreed to re-advertise for the creation of a Memorial Committee with a deadline for applicants of July 31, 2009 or sooner.

The Board stated that the Memorial Committee would consist of:

<= /span>A member of the VFW

&= nbsp; A member of the American Legion

&= nbsp; The Town Veterans’ Officer

&= nbsp; A member of the Cemetery Commission

&= nbsp; A member of the Historical Commission

&= nbsp; Two interested community people

The Committee will be ask= ed to come up with a set of guidelines to honor and memorialize veterans or other citizens in town for the present and for the future, and particularly a plan for the placement of future monuments.

The Committee’s pur= pose is to make a draft of guidelines to present to the Board of Selectmen by the e= nd of September. The Board of Selectmen will in turn establish a policy based on the Board’s decisi= ons.

In the meantime, Mr. Fair= banks asked Mrs. Jones not to proceed with the inscription of the benches until t= he Memorial Committee makes their recommendations and the Board of Selectmen establishes a policy.

AUTHORIZATION TO INCUR/PAY EXPENSES FOR ICE STORM

Mr. O’Toole moved t= hat in accordance with the provisions of MGL Chapter 44, Section 31, the Board of Selectmen vote to approve the incurrence and payment of liabilities in exce= ss of appropriations for those departments incurring expenses related to the December 11, 2008 ice storm disaster. Mr. Fairbanks seconded the motion.&= nbsp; The motion passed unanimously.

VACATION TIME

Mr. O’Toole moved t= hat the Board allow an employee to use one week of vacation time before June 30, 20= 09 and carry over one week of vacation time into the new fiscal year.

8:34 p.m. ADJOURNMENT

Mr. O’Toole moved that the Board adjourn. Mr. Fairbanks seconded the motion.= The motion passed unanimously on a= roll call vote.
