D.A.R.E. Program-                D.A.R.E. Officers - Erick Phillips and Ralph LeBlanc

Drug Abuse Resistance Education is a substance abuse prevention and safety program taught at the Westminster Elementary and Overlook Middle School.  It is taught to the first, third, fifth, and seventh grade students throughout the school year.  The fifth grade curriculum is the core of the program and the most in-depth.  More information about the curriculum can be found on DAREAMERICA.com.

RAD Classes (Rape Aggression Defense) -

A series of three classes taught by trained instructors from the Westminster Police Department.  Officer Richard Michel and Officer Amy Ballentine.  This class is designed to teach self defense and gives information about how to protect yourself in the event of an attack.  This is an all female participant class and is offered free of charge.    A sign-up sheet is available in the dispatch center at the Westminster Police Department.

RUOK Safety Program -

A voluntary sign-up for the elderly and the sick, to be called on daily to ensure their safety.  This service of the Westminster Police Department calls the subscriber's home and alerts the police and fire departments if there is no response from the subscriber.  Sign-up forms are available at the dispatch center at the Police Department.

Child Passenger Safety Seat Inspections -

The Westminster Police Department recognizes the importance of child passenger safety in vehicles and has recently trained Officer Ralph LeBlanc in the proper installation of child safety seats.  The department is initiating a car seat safety check point at the Westminster Police Department.  Inspections are done on a by-appointment basis at the police station.

Officer LeBlanc is the only officer trained to provide this service, so calling ahead is recommended.

It is estimated that over 80% of car seats are either incorrectly installed, or the child is not properly seated in the car seat for protection.  Hard to understand directions are cited as the main reason for this high percentage.

The Westminster Police Department is providing this service free of charge with assistance from the Massachusetts Governor's Highway Safety Bureau and our local Lions Club.
