The Board of Selectmen is comprised of three elected
members, and is the Chief Executive Body of the Town. It
draws its authority from the General Laws of Massachusetts
and the Bylaws of the Town of Westminster and is directly
responsible to the electorate.

School -- Please note: Continuation of Annual Town Meeting starts at 1: PM
Selectmen will meet on the upcoming Wednesdays in 2008:
May 21; June 4; June 18; July 9; July 23; August 13; August 20; September 3;
and, September 17

Responsibilities
Some of the Board's responsibilities include:
 |
policy
making for a wide variety of issues that affect the Town's
provision of services, |
 |
calling Town meetings and preparing
warrants, |
 |
oversight on litigation matters, |
 |
licensing (as the
Town's Licensing Authority) for various licenses and
permits, |
 |
negotiating union contracts, |
 |
supervising Town
expenditures, contracts and weekly bills, |
 |
maintaining public
streets and lights, |
 |
enacting rules and regulations for
such matters as traffic control. |
The Board of Selectmen also appoints most of the Town's
department heads and appointed officers as well as more than
twenty volunteer boards and committees. One of the offices
appointed by the Board is the Town Coordinator
who performs
the administrative tasks of the Town on behalf of the Board.
In addition to its administrative and
coordination functions, the office also addresses public
inquiries, complaints, suggestions, and requests for
information concerning those matters for which the Selectmen
are responsible.
